Life is suffering

Ok Mr. Negative…thanks for the insight!

Yes, I am Buddhist. No, I don’t practice it on a daily basis, but I was raised Buddhist and always carry a piece of it with me. And as I’ve gotten older, the more I’ve come to appreciate my roots in Buddhism. My mum is Thai (my dad Fijian) and has practiced Buddhism all her life. I’ve now come to realise why she has always been so focused and disciplined all her life. From completing her Economics degree in Bangkok, to packing her bags and moving all the way to Australia, starting multiple businesses in Sydney, and becoming a wife and mother of 3 crazy boys!

So why MONK MODE?

Dukkha, translating to ‘Life is suffering’, is the first of the Four Noble Truths of Buddhism. Symbolically, it represents the awakening and liberation of the Buddha and it’s pretty much the first thing that you learn in Buddhism. I didn’t quite understand it growing up, but now it makes perfect sense to me. Life IS suffering…and the ironic thing is that once we fully understand and embrace that life is suffering, your life will become happier. You realise that life isn’t about trying to be happy all the time, it’s about living! It’s about feeling all the feels that make up being a human in this world! The good, bad and everything in between…

The mind is everything. What you think you become.

– Buddha

I believe we are at our happiest when we are giving and growing. When we are serving others and when we are right in the thick of things. But what does growing really mean? It means leaving your comfort zone, venturing into uncharted territories, doing things you are scared to do, being in pain, feeling nervous, feeling anxious…happiness is ironically wrapped around all those things! Sounds contradictory, doesn’t it? But true happiness lies within growth.

MONK MODE to me is focus, discipline, self-improvement. It means putting in the work. It means minimising distractions, maybe even some isolation, to achieve one’s own goals. And it all begins with our mindset…stick with me on this…it will all start to make sense.

Discipline is freedom. Are you ready to grow? Let’s get it!

But first…let me run it back to where this all started.
